Leading Principles:
-this is a story based campaign; I will endeavour to ensure as few games as possible are played along the lines of the standard rulebook scenarios;
-anyone, and I do mean -anyone-, can join. While the setting this campaign will be based upon largely consists of Imperials, Chaos, Tau and Tyranids, especially in the opening phase there is plenty of room for changes. For instance, if there's nobody wanting to play tyranids, but we have ork players willing to join, Hive Fleet Dagon can simply become Waaagh Dagun. It also doesn't matter if you're just learning the game or a long time veteran - as long as you're looking for some fun games, you're more than welcome. The only caveat to this would be Grey Knights. Being a elite of the elite force, they won't simply invade planet after planet just to kill tau fire warriors and random cultists. They're simply not frontline troops and thus their missions will have to be undertaken accordingly.
-there will be room for ANY sort of game related to 40k - Warhammer 40k (including Planetstrike, Apocalypse & Cities of Death), Battlefleet Gothic, Epic Armageddon, Kill Team and even the lovely RPGs from Fantasy Flight - Deathwatch (obviously), Dark Heresy, Black Crusade or Rogue Trader; all games will be interconnected through the story and all outcomes will matter - for instance winning a battle in orbit could ensure access to reinforcements in the coming land battle or even the ability to bombard your foe before the game begins
-all the planets you see on the map will have a few clearly-established characteristics - type, occupancy (contested/under control of X), number and list of strategic locations (space port, armoury, hives, etc)
-while I'll be the campaign GM, throwing decisions left and right, I will be open to suggestions as long as they are reasonable and make sense in your situations. For instance the Guard High Command will consider a colonel's plan to make a breakthrough from the landing fields after a successful planetary invasion to take out enemy supply caches discovered to the west, despite having a clear objective in the southern space port, but they will not accept said colonel picking up his regiment, going back into space and doing another landing 50 kilometers to the north because the air smells better over there.
-also note that so far nothing is set in stone. A chapter of marines may send initial support but then withdraw to fight somewhere else. Entire regiments of Imperial Guard sometimes end up being completely wiped out when a planet is abandoned or their deep space transport is destroyed en route. New enemies may emerge as the war drags on. There are very few requirements other than being willing to play in a less competitive, more story oriented environment. I will be penalising WAAC lists and attitudes. I want to see each player creating their own back stories. Units should be identifiable. They may even gain experience throughout the campaign.
-I'd rather keep doing this universally in English, mainly due to a) it's easier to write the fluff b) it will be universally understandable (if it goes well and we want to show it off); if anyone has a problem with this, speak up!
How the campaign will work
-anyone can join. Post here with a race you wish to play (and a side, if playing Imperial Guard you can be either loyal or on the side of chaos or Tau) and then prepare our force (leaders, unit names, back story as applicable);
-anyone can play virtually anyone else in the campaign; whenever two players wish to play a game I set a location and mission (suggestions and desires will be considered and accepted if not unreasonable - i.e. 'I want to invade planet X or clear planet Y of opposition'); a points limit is also agreed upon between players
-a scenario is set up, detailing deployment, special rules (including any bonuses from previous battles) and mission objectives;
-the game is played by the two (or more!) players; the game should be recorded as faithfully as possible (the flow of battle, not just the acquired victory points); decent photos of the game will earn bonus points;
-a brief battle report is posted in the campaign thread by either participant;
-following the game, there will be consequences in the story, established by the GM (me); these will be posted in the campaign thread as well; the degree of victory, the course of battle and the size of the game will all be taken into account.
Additions to this post will be made as they will be required.
